Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has been sentenced to one year in the check bounce case. He has been accused of bounced checks of Rs 22 lakh in two separate cases. The court has also said that if he does not pay the amount in 2 months, then he will have to stay in jail for one more year.
The transaction was done between filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi and Anilbhai Dhanrajbhai Jethani of Rajkot. Due to this, three separate checks were issued for Rs 22.50 lakh. However, due to the bounce of all three checks, Anil Jethani filed a case for money. After this, Anil Jethani sent a legal notice to Rajkumar Santoshi. Rajkumar Santoshi did not respond to the notice, following which a case was filed against Rajkumar Santoshi under section 138.
on the whole matterhas expressed its opinion. In an interview given to ETimes, he has said that he is suffering for being a celebrity. They say we are easy to target. I have full faith in the judiciary. We will appeal the matter.
Rajkumar Santoshi claimed that the plaintiffs have misappropriated the blank checks while they have returned the money and there is no balance in the transaction. The court then called the bank officials for witnesses and they took the side of the complainant.
