Karan Johar’s big statement about KGF, ‘If we made such a film, we would have been lynched’

The year 2022 has changed the script of cinema in India. The three most successful Indian films at the box office this year are from South Films – Telugu, Kannada and Tamil with one film each from the three film industries. These films have not only performed well at the box office but were also praised by the critics for being thoroughly entertaining. The highest-grossing film of this year was KGF: Chapter 2 (KGF: Chapter 2). Recently, filmmaker Karan Johar praised him fiercely, but also said with praise that if such a film was made in Bollywood, it would have been heavily criticized.

KGF: Chapter 2 is a Kannada film, in which superstar Yash performed tremendously. The sequel to the 2018 hit KGF: Chapter 1 earned over ₹1250 crore at the box office, of which ₹435 crore came from the Hindi version only. The film has also received a very good response critically. In a recent interview, Karan expressed his opinion while talking about the success of South’s films in the Hindi belt.

‘Such films made in Bollywood would have been lynching’
Karan expressed happiness over the success of KGF, but said that if such films were made in Bollywood, he would have been lynched. While talking to Film Companion, ‘When I read the reviews of ‘KGF’, I got confused. I thought if we had made this film, we would have been lynched. But now everyone is celebrating the success of KGF here. Although, I liked it very much, I liked it from my heart, but still I thought what would have happened if we did this?’.

The filmmaker further said that Bollywood producers are not given the exemption that South filmmakers often get and which they also enjoy. He said, by the way, this is happening from both the sides. We are living a dual existence and for this we have to stop.

Karan Johar is directing the film after 6 years
Karan Johar is directing ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. He is directing the film after almost six years. It also stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi, which will release on 10 February 2023.
