Amjad Khan did not have the money to get his wife discharged from the hospital, borrowed Rs 400 from Chetan Anand

In a new interview, Shadab revealed that Amjad had no money to get his mother Shehla Khan discharged from the hospital. He said that filmmaker Chetan Anand had helped him by giving him Rs 400.

‘Sholay’ was released in the year 1975. The story of the film was written by Salim-Javed and its director was Ramesh Sippy. Amjad played the character of brutal dacoit Gabbar Singh in the film, which is popular till date. He has also got popularity from this character. Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan were also in lead and important roles in the film. ‘Sholay’ is a classic and counted among the best films of India.

Shadab Khan said in an interview to the Times of India, “Yes (laughs), but he did not have the money to pay so that my mother Shehla Khan could be discharged from the hospital where I was born. . She started crying. My father was not coming to the hospital, he was ashamed to show his face. Chetan Anand saw my father holding his head in a corner, during that time my father had done his film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’. Chetan Anand sahib gave him 400 rupees so that my mother and I can come home.

Salim Khan recommended Ajmad Khan

Shadab Khan also recalled an incident before the release of ‘Sholay’. He said, “When the role of Gabbar Singh came to my father for ‘Sholay’, Salim Khan sahib recommended his name to Ramesh Sippy. The shooting of the film was to be held in Ramgarh on the outskirts, 70 km from Bangalore Airport. He took a flight to Bangalore and there was so much commotion that day that the flight had to land 7 times.”

Shadab further said, “After that when the flight stopped on the runway, most of the people got out of the flight out of fear but my father did not come out. But he was afraid that he would go back to Danny Saab (Danny Denzongpa) if he didn’t do the film. So, after a few minutes he too got off the flight.”
