6 Years of Pink: ‘Pink’ is a milestone in Taapsee Pannu’s career, Big B was ready for the role in 5 minutes

‘Pink’ Through the story of three working girls, the film forces the society to take a peek at its own. This film by Shoojit Sircar tries to teach the lesson that before agitating on the road with candles and placards, it is first necessary to change your thinking. ‘Pink’ is not a film, but a movement that will continue. ‘Pink’, released on 16 September 2016, talks about the fundamental right of women to say no. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury made his Bollywood debut as a director with this film. There were actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Angad Bedi, Andrea Tariang in this film. The story of casting every character in this film is very interesting.

Taapsee Pannu’s great film ‘Pink’
Even though it has been 6 years since ‘Pink’ was released, but this film still remains in the discussion due to its strong subject. This film told that no means only no. The film ‘Pink’ has an important contribution in the acting career of Taapsee Pannu. Once while talking to the media, the actress had told that ‘I am often asked about the turning point of my career, so I always take the name of ‘Pink’. This is a film which proved to be a milestone in my career and it gave a direction to my career.

Taapsee got the film like this
Hardly anyone knows that Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury had understood on seeing Taapsee that she got the lead actress. Anirudh had told in an interview to the media that when I met Taapsee Pannu for the first time, I realized that no one can play the character of Minal Arora better than him. Amitabh did it as soon as he heard the story
The story of casting Amitabh Bachchan in this film is also very interesting. According to director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, ‘Shoojit Sarkar told me that Mr Bachchan wanted to know about his role in ‘Pink’. The film’s writers Ritesh, Shoojit and I went to meet him. Shoojit told him about the role. I gave information about the politics of the film. After listening Mr. Bachchan took only 5 minutes and said yes. When we left his office, we started dancing. It was the presence of Mr. Bachchan, due to which the voice of ‘No Means No’ could reach millions of people.’

‘Pink’ close to Amitabh’s heart
After the immense success of the film, the team had a press conference, in which Amitabh Bachchan told that the response received for this film has overwhelmed me. With the passage of time the position of women in the society has changed a lot. During the KBC show, I meet many such women who sit on the hotseat and tell the story of their life’s struggles. In the 70s, we used to fight for our heroines. Now the time has changed. Now all the films are being made on the issue of women.

Casting of rest of ‘Pink’ cast
Casting director Jogi took the screen test of Kirti Kulhari, then she also turned out to be amazing. Something similar happened after meeting Andrea Tariang. When Anirudh first saw Andrea, a resident of Shillong, she found him fit for the character. Anurag met Andrea at a coffee house in Bandra. He had told that working with Amitabh was very nervous but I do not know that this scene will become so much fun. Overall, a lot of hard work was done for every scene and artist.

‘No Means No’ became a famous dialogue
A dialogue of ‘Pink’ ‘No Means No’ became so famous that it was spoken everywhere. Anirudh says that when we were making the film, I and producer Shoojit Sarkar knew that the film would touch the hearts of the audience, but it was not expected to be a commercial success. As filmmakers, it is our endeavor to make a film that directly reaches the heart of the audience, commercial success is the result of that. This film was made in 30 crores and its total collection was 65.39 crores.

Message and story of ‘Pink’
To judge the character of a girl, her dress cannot be the yardstick. The same message was given in ‘Pink’. The story of three friends who get caught in a court case was shown and Amitabh fights their case brilliantly and tells that saying ‘no’ to a girl only means ‘no’.
